Definition of the word ballot paper

The term "ballot paper" is used to describe the physical document that contains the names of candidates or options for an election or vote. The etymology of the word "ballot" itself comes from the Latin "bulletum", which initially referred to a small round lead object used as an official seal in medieval Europe. The first recorded use of "ballots" (in plural form) dates back to the 17th century, when they were employed as secret votes in the Venetian Republic's election process.
