The origin of the term "baseball cap" can be traced back to the mid-19th century when a new sport called "town ball" emerged in the United States. This game involved using a round, pitched ball and two bat-wielding teams competing to hit and run the ball. Its name changed to "base ball" and eventually to "baseball" as it gained popularity and became an organized sport.
