The term "electric vehicle" (EV) refers to a type of automobile that uses electricity as its primary source of power, rather than fossil fuels. The concept of electric cars dates back to the late 19th century when Robert Anderson, a Scottish inventor, built the first crude electric car in 1839. However, at that time, the limitations of battery technology and the lack of charging infrastructure restricted the practicality of electric vehicles. The modern era of EVs began in the mid-20th century, when General Motors introduced the Chevrolet Corvair Monza electric car as a demonstration model in 1964. This vehicle had a range of just 75 miles and took several hours to charge, making it impractical for everyday use. It wasn't until the 1990s that EVs began to gain more attention, as researchers at the General Motors Electro-Motive Division (EMD) partnered with NASA to create an EV based on the EMD Saturn Electric Vehicle concept.
