Definition of the word massage parlour

The term "massage parlour" originated in the early 20th century and was initially used to describe gentlemen's clubs or social spaces where men could gather and receive massages from women. These establishments often featured exotic dancers and other forms of entertainment as well. Over time, however, the meaning of "massage parlour" began to change. In the 1960s and 1970s, these businesses more specifically came to refer to places where erotic massages, also known as "happy endings" or "extras," were offered. These services were often provided in the back rooms of these establishments, behind closed doors. The term "massage parlour" has since become a euphemism for brothels and sex houses, where prostitution and other forms of illicit sexual activity take place. Despite efforts to combat these businesses and their illicit activities, the term "massage parlour" continues to be associated with the sex trade in many parts of the world.
