Definition of the word millennial

The term "millennial" originally referred to individuals born during the fourth century AD, during the reign of the Roman emperor Diocletian. They were named the "millennial generation" because Christians at that time expected Christ to return and bring about a thousand-year reign, known as the "millennium," before Judgment Day. The word "millennial" came into common use again in the late 20th century, this time to describe a generation born between the early 1980s and the mid-1990s. There are several theories about how this specific group came to be called millennials, with some suggesting that it is because they were the first generation to experience the turn of a millennium (Y2K) and some arguing that it is because they are a demographically significant group, representing a new generation with unique values, attitudes, and economic circumstances. However, there is no clear consensus on the origins of the term, and it continues to be a subject of discussion and debate in popular culture, sociology, and economics.
