đạo đức
The word "morality" originated from the Latin word "moralitas," which means "manners" or "behavior." The concept of morality itself, however, has roots that go back to ancienttimes. In ancient Greece, the philosopher Socrates promoted the idea that people should strive for virtues such as wisdom, courage, and self-control. This idea was further developed by Plato, who believed that morality was essential for the functioning of society and the attainment of happiness. The Romans also had a strong emphasis on moral values, particularly in their legal system. The laws of the Twelve Tables, which were inscribed around 450 BCE, included principles of justice and fairness. As Christianity spread throughout Europe, the concept of morality became closely linked with religious values. In the Middle Ages, the Seven Deadly Sins (pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth) were widely taught as examples of immoral behavior. The Enlightenment period saw a shift from religious morality to secular morality, with philosophers such as Immanuel Kant promoting the idea that morality was based on rational principles that were universally applicable. Today, the concept of morality continues to evolve, with debates around issues such as the moral status of animals, the morality of technology, and the morality of different cultural and religious traditions. Moral values remain an important part of many societies, helping to shape social norms and provide a sense of purpose and meaning for individuals.
