Definition of the word mower

The word "mower" originally comes from the Old English word "māhūr" which means "a person who cuts down" or "a man who cuts". In Old English, the process of cutting down plants or crops was done manually by farmers and agricultural workers. Over time, the meaning of the word "māhūr" evolved as agricultural technologies advanced. In Middle English, "mowen" was used to describe the act of cutting grass or crops with a sickle or a scythe, and eventually, the word "mower" came to mean a machine designed for cutting grass, specifically a lawnmower. The first lawnmower was invented in the early 19th century, and it was a manually-operated machine called a "rolling mower". In 1830, Edwin Budding designed and patented the first modern lawnmower, which used rotary blades instead of scythe blades and was much more efficient. Today, lawnmowers come in a variety of forms, including push mowers, riding mowers, and robotic mowers, but the word "mower" remains a common and familiar term for these machines.
