Definition of the word papyrus

The word "papyrus" has its origin in ancient Egypt. Papyrus was a type of plant-based material used to create a writing medium for thousands of years. The Greek explorer and historian Herodotus (c. 484 BCE - c. 425 BCE) is credited with introducing the word "papyrus" to the Western world. He used the Greek word " милли" (papyros) to describe the plant's name, which was then adopted into Latin as "papyrus." The Latin term was later translated into various languages, including Old French as "papyrus," and eventually into Middle English as "papyrus." Today, the word "papyrus" refers to the plant, the material made from it, and the ancient writing medium created from it.
