Definition of the word petrol tank

The word "petrol" is a term commonly used in many English-speaking countries to refer to gasoline. Its origin is credited to a Sir Fredrick Gowland Hopkins, a British biochemist, who suggested the term in the late 19th century as a short and easy-to-pronounce replacement for the traditional name, "coal tar naphtha." The term "tank" also has its roots in history, originating in the early 20th century from the German word "Tankette" which referred to a small armored vehicle used in World War I.
