What is podcasting? How to use in English

The origin of the word "podcasting" can be traced back to 2004 when it was first coined by Merlin Mann, a blogger and software engineer. Mann blended together two words, "iPod" and "broadcasting," to create a new term for the distribution of digital audio files, primarily through Apple's iPod music player, but also for other portable media devices that followed. Mann's friend, Ben Hammersley, a British writer and journalist, is credited with popularizing the term. Hammersley used it in an article published in The Guardian newspaper in October 2004, helping to spread its usage and acceptance as a new word in the world of digital media. Today, "podcasting" has evolved beyond the original use—a podcast can be accessed and consumed on a variety of devices, not just Apple's iPod—and has become a widely recognized form of digital content delivery.
