truy tố
The word "prosecution" has its roots in the Latin words "pro" meaning "for" and "sequi" meaning "to follow". In ancient Roman law, prosecutors were officials who brought charges against individuals on behalf of the state or other individuals. The term "prosecutio" referred to the act of pursuing or prosecuting someone in a court of law. Over time, the term evolved and was adopted into Middle English as "prosecucion", and later into Early Modern English as "prosecution". In modern English, the word refers to the process of bringing charges against someone and presenting evidence in a court of law to prove their guilt.
