Where does the word telecommunication come from?

The word "telecommunication" is derived from the Greek words "tele" (far) and "kommunikos" (sharing). It was coined in the late 19th century to describe the transmission of information over long distances using electrical signals. The term was first used by the French engineer and inventor, Philippe Camille Ernest Émilien, in 1888. He used it to describe the technology used to transmit Morse code messages between Paris and Lyon. Prior to this, the term "telegraph" was used to describe the transmission of messages over wires, but this new term was needed to describe the broader field of transmitting information, including voice, images, and data, over long distances using electrical and electronic means. Today, the term "telecommunication" refers to the entire range of technologies and services used to facilitate communication over long distances, including telephone, internet, and wireless networks.
