không thể chạm tới
The term "untouchable" originated in India in the 7th century and referred to the Dalits, a social group considered "impure" or "polluting" to the higher castes. The term is a direct translation of the Sanskrit word "chandalas," meaning " polluted" or "impure." The Dalits were forced to live outside of the main social system and were responsible for performing tasks considered "unclean," such as manual scavenging, waste removal, and corpse disposal. The concept of untouchability was deeply ingrained in Indian society, and the Dalits were ostracized and excluded from mainstream society. The British colonial era reinforced the practice, and it was only abolished in 1955 by the Indian government. Despite this, the legacy of untouchability continues to affect Dalit communities today.
