Definition of the word wet dream

The term "wet dream" originates from the physical sensations experienced during sleep that can result in ejaculation and the subsequent wetness or dampness of bedsheets. The phrase "wet dream" emerged during the 15th century in English, but its exact origins are unclear. Some historians suggest that the phrase may have stemmed from the medieval belief that sexual thoughts during sleep could lead to the discharge of semen, which could leave wet spots on the bedding. Others believe that the term originated from the Dutch word "slapen op wat," which literally translates to "sleeping on something" (i.e., semen).
