Definition of the word yule log

The term "Yule log" originates from ancient Germanic pagan traditions celebrated during the winter solstice. In Old Norse, the word "jól," which means "Yule," designates the festive season commemorating the winter solstice, the return of the sun, and the arrival of longer days. The "log" part of the term refers to a large wooden log used as fuel to keep families warm during the winter.
