Definition of the word daddy

The origin of the word "daddy" as a term of endearment for a father can be traced back to the mid-19th century in England. It is believed to have emerged from a combination of two words - "da" (an infants' pronunciation of "father") and "dy" (a Baby Talk suffix commonly used in words like "cuppy" for cup or "teddy" for teddy bear).
