Definition of the word double bluff

In poker, bluffing refers to the act of deceiving your opponents into believing that you have a strong hand when, in reality, you have a weak one. A simple bluff involves making a bet or raise with the expectation that your opponents will fold their cards. However, a double bluff takes this strategy to a new level. In a double bluff, a player initially represents a strong hand by raising or betting heavily. This forces the other players to fold their cards, except for one opponent who suspects that the bluffing player is bluffing. The suspecting opponent calls the bet, hoping to win the game with a better hand. The bluffing player, aware that the suspecting opponent has called, then makes another bet, which is larger than the previous one. This second bet is the double bluff, as the player deliberately shows signs of weakness, hoping to make the suspecting opponent think that they are now showing a weaker hand. In reality, the bluffing player still has a mediocre hand, but they hope to win the game by making their opponent further doubt the strength of their hand. The success of a double bluff relies on the intuition and skill of the player. The bluffing player has to study their opponents and guess which player is most likely to suspect the initial bluff. In addition, the bluffing player must be able to read their opponent's facial expressions and body language to determine whether they're convinced by the double bluff. While the odds of success for a double bluff are low, it can be an exciting and nerve-wracking manoeuvre in poker.
