Definition of the word frisbee

The word "Frisbee" originates from the Frisbie Baking Company, a well-known bakery located in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The company's pie tins were lightweight, flat, and flew well when tossed, earning the nickname "Frisbie" from the local college students. In the 1950s, a college student, Ed Headrick, started modifying the pie tin to improve its aerodynamics and flight. He called it the "Pluto Platter" but later settled on "Frisbee" as a reference to the Frisbie Baking Company. In 1957, Headrick founded the Whirlybee Corporation, which later became the Wham-O toy company, and introduced the modern Frisbee as we know it today.
