Definition of the word impulsion

The word "impulsion" is derived from the Latin word "impulso" which means a push or a thrust. In the Middle Ages, this term was used to describe the force that generated motion in physical objects. Over time, the concept expanded to include mental or emotional forces that drive individuals to act, as well as the theoretical notion of the force that propels physical objects. During the scientific revolution, "impulsion" came to be known as "momentum" in English and "impulso" in Spanish, while in French it evolved into "impulsion" to denote a sudden push or an impetus.
