Definition of the word pyrotechnic

The word "pyrotechnic" originates from the Greek words "pyro" meaning fire and "tekhne" meaning art or craft. In ancient Greece, pyrotechnics referred to the art of fireworks and the use of fire as a form of entertainment. The term was later adopted into Latin as "pyrotechnicus", and from there it was borrowed into various languages, including English. In the 16th century, the term "pyrotechnic" began to be used to describe the art of making fireworks, as well as the scientific study of heat, combustion, and flames. Today, the word "pyrotechnic" encompasses not only the art of creating fireworks and explosives, but also the study of fire behavior, combustion reactions, and heat transfer.
