Definition of the word radar

The word "radar" is an acronym for Radio Detection And Ranging, coined by British scientist Sir Henry Tizard during World War II. Its origin can be traced back to the late 1930s when scientists were investigating ways to detect enemy aircraft approaching UK shores.
