Definition of the word speedo

The word "speedo" is derived from the brand name Speedo, which was coined by the Australian company Macdale Pty Ltd in the 1928. The name Speedo was created by combining the words "speed" and "swim", as the company aimed to produce a swimming trunk that would enhance swimmers' performance by reducing drag in the water. Initially, the company's range of swimwear consisted of longer styles, but in the 1950s, they introduced a shorter trunk for male swimmers called the "Racer Back," which featured a lower cut leg and thinner straps.
