Definition of the word streak

The word "streak" originally comes from the Old English word "strāc," which referred to a streak or line that appeared due to something being smeared or dragged across a surface. This word evolved over time, and in Middle English, it became "strecc," which mean "mark" or "stripe." In the early 1500s, "streak" started to be used to describe a narrow line of color or light that appeared across a surface, especially during sunrise or sunset. This use of the word likely grew out of the earlier meanings, as streaks of light could have been seen as lines or marks created by the way light interacts with the sky at those times of day.
