Definition of the word turbojet

The term "turbojet" was coined in the mid-20th century as a combination of two words: "turbine" and "jet." In aviation, a jet engine uses a stream of high-velocity exhaust gases to propel the aircraft forward. The turbine, on the other hand, is a mechanical device that converts the energy of the hot gases from the combustion chamber into mechanical power, which is then used to spin the engine's turbine blades. In a turbojet engine, there is no separate compressor stage to increase the pressure of the incoming air before it is combusted and exhausted. Instead, the airflow is accelerated by the rotating turbine blades, causing the aircraft to gain speed as it moves forward. The combination of these two technologies in a single engine, therefore, gave rise to the term "turbojet," which has become a familiar term in aviation and engineering circles.
