Definition of the word team handball

The word "team handball" originated in the early 1900s when a gym teacher named Gustav Sandorf searched for a indoor game that could be played during the winter months when outdoor sports were impossible due to harsh weather conditions. Sandorf's original idea was a cross between rugby and a medieval game called "horseball," which involved horseback riders passing a ball with their hands. The game Sandorf invented, which he called "handball," became popular in schools in Germany and Denmark in the 1930s. It quickly spread to other European countries, including Austria, Switzerland, and Czechoslovakia, where it was played predominantly indoors due to the colder climates. In the 1930s, the International Amateur Handball Federation (IAHF) was founded, which later became the International Handball Federation (IHF). The sport gained international recognition when it was included in the 1936 Berlin Olympics, but only as a demonstration sport. In team handball, a team of 11 players includes seven field players and four goalkeepers. The objective is to throw a ball into the opposing team's goal, with the game played in two halves of 30 minutes each.
